Joint municipality Eschede: Culture

Eschede has no theatre, no opera, not even a cinema. And yet there is plenty going on here as regards culture. Apart from the local clubs which contribute with music and singing, there are repeated exhibitions showing small and great art, guest performances of renowned theatres, soloists and orchestras. And there are projects and festivals drawing supra-regional attention and visitors from all over Germany.

The typical rural cultural life and the heath poet Hermann Löns, who is known well beyond the borders, are not all this region has to offer, but also modern experimental art.
Thus the literate Arno Schmidt wrote literary history before the gates of Eschede in the neighbouring heath village Bargfeld. The cultural initiative "peripheral location Eschede" has made our village known even beyond German boarders with the festival ""Heide(n)spektakel/ "Heath(en) Spectacle".

Magical places:
The south heath is currently re-discovering and interpreting its regional history. It is culture and common roots that maintain the identity of people when the basic foundations of life change.

Magical places in the south heath are setting the signs of change; artists of magical places are looking for contemporary translations, pictograms. The events at historical places or set before dream-like stages, the production and installations at mills and bridge railings, sand pits, oak groves or in crystal clear heath streams call on you to have a look and listen. You can feel the breath of history on the route to magic places where the stones start talking and the trees whisper bygone myths and legends:
Of cursed villages and of the milled sand of postal paths. Or of the pig wars, stags in plastic and barbiturates, original village characters, ancestral connections to the English crown, to the mass currency the ten mark note. It is really worth going on a search for the roots!
