The Economic Region Celle is characterised by a varied mixture of trades. Particularly the petroleum and natural gas supply industries, that have their roots in Celle country when petroleum was struck in the 19th century, are an important branch of the economy. However, companies operating in paper production and the production of paint bear supra-regional importance, too. Machine engineering, the chemical industry and the food industry round off the larger branches and many service companies which, in the era of boundless communications and new media, increasingly appreciate the advantages of living and working.
